Screenplay

After Robbie Hoffman wrote and published the book “CHA$ING ARTHUR My Search for Dutch Schultz’s Lost Treasure” he reached out to his good friend and screenwriter Steve Salazar to see if he would be interested in collaborating on a CHASING ARTHUR screenplay. Steve loved the story and agreed. From July to October the two men met twice a week at Steve’s restaurant. They would start at 8 am and work until the place opened its doors for lunch at 12 noon. They were constantly on the phone or computer sharing ideas and stories.  They completed the original screenplay on October 7, 2022. Both men feel like they penned a gem. It’s not your typical gangster story. For the last 87 years Arthur Flegenheimer a.k.a Dutch Schultz was portrayed in the media and press as your average dumb gangster. This could not be further from the truth. Robbie’s grandfather, George Hoffman, was personal friends with Arthur. The stories were passed down to his father and uncles who then passed them down to Robbie. Their goal was to set the record straight on good old Arthur Flegenheimer. As the saying goes, there are two sides to every story. That is the case for the notorious gangster. Was he a ruthless killer and law-breaking bootlegger during prohibition in the 1920’s and 30’s? Did he go toe-to-toe with Lucky Luciano, Thomas Dewey and the Federal Government? Yes, but he was also a family man, generous to his inner circle, and a loyal trusted friend to Robbie’s grandfather. His rags to riches story from a petty street criminal to successful multi-millionaire is legendary.
